How you can be led by the Holy Spirit

Man is a spirit

Creation in the image of God, Spirit, soul and body

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."  (Genesis 1:26, ESV)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.   (Genesis 1:27, ESV)

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (1 Thessalonians 5:23, ESV)

The hidden man

but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.  (1 Peter 3:4, ESV)

The inward man

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.  (2 Corinthians 4:16, ESV)

The spirit leaves the body

23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.  24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.  25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith,  (Philippians 1:23-25, ESV)

God dwells in you

The spirit of God is in you

Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?  (1 Corinthians 3:16, ESV)

Dwells in you

What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.   (2 Corinthians 6:16, ESV)

Abides in you

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,  (John 14:16, ESV)

You have a new nature
You are a new creature

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.  (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV)

Born of God

No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.  (1 John 3:9, ESV)

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  (John 3:6, ESV)

Partakers of the divine nature

by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.  (2 Peter 1:4, ESV)

The role of the Holy Spirit

Comforter

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,  (John 14:16, ESV)

Helper

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.  (Romans 8:26, ESV)

Reveals things to come

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.  (John 16:13, ESV)

He will teach you

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.  (John 14:26, ESV)

He will guide your mind

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.  (John 14:26, ESV)

He will lead you

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  (Romans 8:14, ESV)
