The Authority of the Bible and the Word of God

The Authority of the Bible and the Word of God
Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.   (Psalm 119:89, ESV)
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,  (1 Peter 3:15, ESV)
The word of God is absolutely trustworthy
1. Promises made many generations earlier are kept
"Blessed be the LORD who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.  (1 Kings 8:56, ESV)
2. God stands by his word till it comes to pass
For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.  (Matthew 5:18, ESV)
Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it."
3. It is unchanging in a changing world
For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.  (Matthew 5:18, ESV)
but the word of the Lord remains forever." And this word is the good news that was preached to you.   (1 Peter 1:25, ESV)
4. It abides forever
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.  (Matthew 24:35, ESV)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.  (Luke 21:33, ESV)
